Issue answers

Trustees, the Board, and the Province

What's the most important thing you'd act on as a school board trustee, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen?

My main central priority remains to give each student the best possible classroom experience given the resources we have. A safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment, where students make friends and memories that last a lifetime, My best quality is listening, I now have experience, I am able to build relationships with parents, educators, administrators, and community partners to help accomplish these goals.

Bullying in Schools

Bullying and discrimination are concerns raised in many school communities. What role do you believe a School Board Trustee should play in addressing these issues, and what actions would you support?

All students deserve to feel safe at school, bullying and discrimination must be taken seriously, students and families should be confident that their concerns are being heard. Promote prevention measures, address concerns, maintain communication between families and schools administrators. Every student should be able to learn without the fear of being bullied.

Class Sizes and Staffing

Some school communities have raised concerns about teacher and educational-assistant (EA) staffing levels and class sizes. What role would you take as a School Board Trustee in addressing these concerns, and what would your priorities be?

My role would be to make sure concerns about class sizes, teacher staffing and educational assistant support is appropriately addressed. I must emphasize that the trustees role is to listen to parents, understand needs, and advocate for appropriate resources, while understanding that trustees have no power to make individual staffing decisions.

Special Programs and Program Access

School boards make decisions about the range and distribution of specialized programs, including special education, language programs, and arts programming. What would you prioritize as a School Board Trustee in how these programs are offered and accessed?

Every student deserves the opportunity to participate in programs that help them succeed and reach their full potential. I would advocate for fair decisions, and responsible use of resources. I continue to support language and arts, and other specialized programs. Having served on Special Education Committee I understand the importance of providing appropriate support for students. Sometimes communication is not there, and the trustee doesn’t hear about the needs in certain schools, this is where the Trustee must make themselves available.
