Issue answers

Trustees, the Board, and the Province

What's the most important thing you'd act on as a school board trustee, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen?

My priority is to protect important school programs and ensure every family has fair access to them, including heritage languages, special education, and the arts. Students’ mental health must be a priority, with safe schools and early access to counselling. As a Tamil language teacher, I see how language helps children connect with their culture and feel they belong. As a TCDSB parent, I understand families’ concerns and I will listen to families, protect programs, and make sure students get the support they need.

Bullying in Schools

Bullying and discrimination are concerns raised in many school communities. What role do you believe a School Board Trustee should play in addressing these issues, and what actions would you support?

Every student deserves to feel safe, respected, and included at school. As a mother and Trustee candidate, I support strong anti-bullying policies, prevention programs, staff training, and confidential reporting. Cyberbullying must be addressed seriously. We must also recognize that students who bully may be experiencing trauma or emotional difficulties. Mental health support must be a priority for both victims and those who cause harm. I will promote inclusive schools and collaboration between families, schools, and the Board.

Class Sizes and Staffing

Some school communities have raised concerns about teacher and educational-assistant (EA) staffing levels and class sizes. What role would you take as a School Board Trustee in addressing these concerns, and what would your priorities be?

As a trustee, I would review how staffing decisions are made and make sure the budget puts teachers and EAs where students need them most. Well-staffed classrooms let teachers use adaptive methods for every learning style. My priorities: protect teaching and EA positions, keep class sizes manageable, and direct support to students with the greatest needs. I would listen to families, teachers, and EAs, monitor outcomes, and bring their voices to the Board table.

Special Programs and Program Access

School boards make decisions about the range and distribution of specialized programs, including special education, language programs, and arts programming. What would you prioritize as a School Board Trustee in how these programs are offered and accessed?

I would work to ensure all families have fair access to the programs they need. I would speak up for the international language program, which is moving from weekdays to Saturdays in 2026–27. As a Tamil language teacher, I understand how learning a heritage language helps children connect with their culture and feel a sense of belonging. I would also support arts programs, clear communication, and meaningful input from families. I would work to support proper and early identification of students’ needs and ensure they receive special education
