Trustees, the Board, and the Province
What's the most important thing you'd act on as a school board trustee, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen? My priorities are better learning, safe and supported schools, and accountability and strong local representation. I'd champion manageable class sizes, classroom supports, stable staffing, timely support for diverse needs and school repairs. As a CPA with 15 years in accounting and over a decade in leadership, I bring experience managing budgets, assessing risks and finding solutions. I would push for adequate funding, responsible financial management and transparent budgets, stand up for students and advocate for what our schools need.
Students deserve to feel safe, respected and able to learn. As trustee, I would advocate for addressing bullying, discrimination and other harmful behaviour early, with safe reporting and prompt, effective responses. Students harmed deserve caring support; those causing harm need fair, age-appropriate accountability and help to change their behaviour. Restorative approaches must protect students’ safety and dignity. I would listen to students, families and staff, and hold board leadership accountable for how concerns are addressed.
Classrooms need appropriate staffing and resources to support effective teaching and learning. I would advocate for manageable class sizes, sufficient teachers and EAs, and safe working and learning conditions. Staffing decisions should reflect classroom complexity as well as enrolment. Drawing on my budgeting experience, I would question funding gaps, build an evidence-based case for provincial investment and press for transparent resource decisions. Families’ and educators’ experiences would help identify where action is needed.
Special Programs and Program Access
School boards make decisions about the range and distribution of specialized programs, including special education, language programs, and arts programming. What would you prioritize as a School Board Trustee in how these programs are offered and accessed?I would prioritize timely special education assessments and supports, alongside strong French and other language programs, arts and athletics. Students should have access to opportunities that reflect their needs, abilities and interests. I would examine demand, program locations, transportation and barriers to participation, and listen to families and educators before supporting changes. My focus would be timely support, clear information and quality programs across our communities.
