Issue answers

Trustees, the Board, and the Province

What's the most important thing you'd act on as a school board trustee, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen?

My priority is making sure families have clear information about decisions affecting their kids, and a voice on student safety and support. I've spent seven years on parent council, most on its executive, secured a crossing guard at Torrance and McCowan, and helped shape school and neighbourhood traffic safety plans. I listen, stand my ground and work constructively with parents, schools, city staff, the board and the province. As trustee, I'll keep families informed and push for answers and action within my authority. Our kids deserve it.

Bullying in Schools

Bullying and discrimination are concerns raised in many school communities. What role do you believe a School Board Trustee should play in addressing these issues, and what actions would you support?

A trustee should help families know their school is a resource they can lean on when facing bullying or discrimination. No parent or child should feel alone. I'd push for clear, culturally relevant information on reporting concerns and getting help, in the languages and formats each community needs. I'd support sustained mentorship, programs that connect students to positive role models, mental health supports and social media education in every school, from elementary to high school, to prevent harm and respond early. Our kids deserve it.

Class Sizes and Staffing

Some school communities have raised concerns about teacher and educational-assistant (EA) staffing levels and class sizes. What role would you take as a School Board Trustee in addressing these concerns, and what would your priorities be?

As trustee, I'll press the board and province for smaller classes, more teachers and EAs, and funding that puts students first. Students need time with teachers and support that prepares them for life beyond school. Teachers need manageable classes and time to teach every student well. I'll push for a review of central TDSB spending and explore revenue from surplus resources with no planned future use, reinvesting that money directly in schools. I'll keep families informed and advocate for properly staffed schools. Our kids deserve it.

Special Programs and Program Access

School boards make decisions about the range and distribution of specialized programs, including special education, language programs, and arts programming. What would you prioritize as a School Board Trustee in how these programs are offered and accessed?

I'd work to expand access to special education, language and arts programs across Toronto, with more local options wherever possible. Program locations should reflect assessed student needs, proximity and fair access, with transportation support where distance is a barrier. I'd support regular reviews to ensure programs meet students' needs and use resources effectively: fix what isn't working and redirect surplus resources to expand programming. Students in every neighbourhood should benefit. Our kids deserve it.
