Issue answers

Trustees, the Board, and the Province

What's the most important thing you'd act on as a school board trustee, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen?

As your Trustee, my top priority is protecting student well-being, front-line staffing, and equitable resources, especially keeping class-size caps strong and securing vital supports for Scarborough schools. My strength lies in my eight years of proven governance experience: holding the province accountable, navigating bureaucracy, and acting as a frontline advocate for parents. Backed by my expertise in Child and Youth Studies, I bring an evidence-based, child-centred approach to ensure every student thrives.

Bullying in Schools

Bullying and discrimination are concerns raised in many school communities. What role do you believe a School Board Trustee should play in addressing these issues, and what actions would you support?

Eight years as your Trustee, parents have reached out to me often to deal with serious cases of bullying and discrimination. I approached the role of Trustee as a frontline advocate, mediating between families and the school system when dealing with principals and superintendents, ensuring parent voices were heard and student safety was prioritized. Moving forward, I will continue managing the system for families by strengthening supportive reporting structures, expanding mental health resources, and fostering safe, inclusive classrooms

Class Sizes and Staffing

Some school communities have raised concerns about teacher and educational-assistant (EA) staffing levels and class sizes. What role would you take as a School Board Trustee in addressing these concerns, and what would your priorities be?

As your Trustee for the past eight years, I have consistently fought for optimal classroom conditions and front-line staffing. The last budget I fought to stop the removal of the TDSB's lower class size caps and strongly disagree with harmful cuts to Model Schools funding that directly impact class sizes. Moving forward, my priorities are securing increased educational-assistant (EA) allocations for special-needs students, defending responsible class-size caps, and ensuring stable, reliable resources for every school.

Special Programs and Program Access

School boards make decisions about the range and distribution of specialized programs, including special education, language programs, and arts programming. What would you prioritize as a School Board Trustee in how these programs are offered and accessed?

As your Trustee for the past eight years, I have prioritized equity and access in specialized programming, successfully advocating for new pathways like the Arts Program at Woburn CI, expanded French Immersion sites in Scarborough, and robust special education supports. My priority is ensuring these programs are equitably distributed across all neighbourhoods, especially in Scarborough, so students don't face long commutes. I will continue fighting for equitable funding, inclusive special education, and localized access so every child thrives.
