Issue answers

Trustees, the Board, and the Province

What's the most important thing you'd act on as a school board trustee, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen?

Make education a pathway to future opportunity and employment - ensuring every child gain the knowledge, practical skills, character, and confidence needed for successful employment in a new challenging world. With 30+ years of IT consulting, engineering degree, community involvement, and work with youth, I posses the expertise and skill to listen, solve problems, manage resources responsibly, and work in a Team. I would use these strengths and methods to turn concerns into concrete improvements for students, parents, schools and community.

Bullying in Schools

Bullying and discrimination are concerns raised in many school communities. What role do you believe a School Board Trustee should play in addressing these issues, and what actions would you support?

Every child deserves to feel safe, respected and included at school. As a Trustee, I would support strong bullying-prevention programs, prompt and consistent responses, clear reporting processes, and support for affected students and families. I would promote empathy, respect and conflict-resolution skills, train staff to recognize concerns early, and encourage safe reporting. I would encourage participation with parents and the community to stop bullying. Building a culture, training staff and community involvement will resolve this issue.

Class Sizes and Staffing

Some school communities have raised concerns about teacher and educational-assistant (EA) staffing levels and class sizes. What role would you take as a School Board Trustee in addressing these concerns, and what would your priorities be?

I recognize that class size and staffing levels can affect the classroom experience, but larger classes do not automatically mean poorer outcomes. As a Trustee, I would listen to teachers, EAs, parents and students to understand where support is most needed. With budget pressures facing school boards, I would focus on the productive use of resources, staff skills and time. I would also support effective learning methods outside the classroom that complement classroom teaching and provide additional support to students for academic success.

Special Programs and Program Access

School boards make decisions about the range and distribution of specialized programs, including special education, language programs, and arts programming. What would you prioritize as a School Board Trustee in how these programs are offered and accessed?

I would prioritize fair access to TDSB’s specialized programs, including Special Education, French and other language programs, arts, STEM, IB and skilled-trades pathways. I would work to expand programs where demand is high, improve access across communities, and ensure clear and transparent admission processes. With specialized programs, we can connect students with the skills, experiences and career pathways towards successful employment and participation in the future workforce. I would seek Public-Private Partnership for hi-tech skills.
