Trustees, the Board, and the Province
What's the most important thing you'd act on as a school board trustee, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen? The most important thing I would act on is ensuring every student has the resources, support and opportunity to succeed. That means fighting for better funding, stronger special education, mental health supports and equity. I bring more than a decade of public education advocacy, four years as a Trustee, and experience working directly with hundreds of families. I know how to bring community voices to the Board, challenge decisions that don’t serve students, and turn advocacy into action.
As a trustee, I have taken a human-rights-focused approach to bullying and discrimination, working with students and families to ensure concerns are heard and addressed. I have brought forward motions to strengthen human rights work at the TDSB and support continued data collection on incidents of racism, bias and hate in schools. That data must lead to meaningful action and accountability, helping create schools where every child, staff member and family feels respected, supported and a true sense of belonging.
I believe every child deserves equitable access to education, with the tools and supports they need to succeed. Our public education system is in crisis due to provincial underfunding. As a trustee, I will continue advocating for the teachers, EAs, resources, and smaller class sizes students need. I supported a TDSB motion capping class sizes in Grades 4–8, which the provincial government overturned. I will keep fighting for adequate funding and supports for every student.
Special Programs and Program Access
School boards make decisions about the range and distribution of specialized programs, including special education, language programs, and arts programming. What would you prioritize as a School Board Trustee in how these programs are offered and accessed? As a Trustee, I will continue advocating for proper funding to ensure equitable access to high-quality special education. Too many students’ needs are unmet, which is a human rights issue. I voted against a special education report with cuts and will champion fully funded programming. I support reinstating Diagnostic Kindergarten and other spec ed programs that have been cut. We need more resources, not less. I’ll advocate for expanded elementary arts, math, science and technology programming to broaden access to high school Specialty programs.
