Issue answers

Trustees, the Board, and the Province

What's the most important thing you'd act on as a school board trustee, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen?

My top priority is refocusing the TDSB on student achievement, well-being & striving for excellence. My Fresh START priorities: Student Focused, Trust Restored, Accountability, Results, & Transparency will guide my service. As a TDSB parent, qualified teacher, CPA, longtime School Council & Parent Involvement Advisory Committee (Board-level) leader, & senior public servant, I bring the experience to ask tough questions, drive needed change, strengthen accountability, & ensure resources reach every student so they can belong, learn, & thrive.

Bullying in Schools

Bullying and discrimination are concerns raised in many school communities. What role do you believe a School Board Trustee should play in addressing these issues, and what actions would you support?

Reported incidents of hate, bias & violence in TDSB schools have increased, & families deserve action. As trustee, I will push for early intervention, staff training, & clear ways to report bullying and discrimination. Families must know what happens next & how to escalate unresolved concerns. I will hold the Board staff accountable for timely responses, review incident data for recurring problems, & require public reporting on whether its actions are making schools safer. Every student deserves to feel safe, respected, & able to learn.

Class Sizes and Staffing

Some school communities have raised concerns about teacher and educational-assistant (EA) staffing levels and class sizes. What role would you take as a School Board Trustee in addressing these concerns, and what would your priorities be?

Teachers & EAs need the resources to support every student. As Trustee, I will advocate for fair funding from the Ministry & effective allocation by Board staff. My priorities are smaller class sizes, sufficient teachers & EAs, & stronger special education supports. I will push for resources that give educators the capacity to teach & students the opportunity to strive for excellence across the curriculum: from literacy, math, & science to the arts, technology, & physical education. Additional resourcing should limit screen time at school.

Special Programs and Program Access

School boards make decisions about the range and distribution of specialized programs, including special education, language programs, and arts programming. What would you prioritize as a School Board Trustee in how these programs are offered and accessed?

As someone with a learning disability (dyslexia), I know personally how the right supports can help a student overcome barriers & succeed. I will prioritize strong special education, language, numeracy, and arts programs, with fair access across the TDSB. Students should receive the supports they need while also having opportunities to strive for excellence across the curriculum. I will push to remove barriers, invest based on student needs, & ensure specialized programs deliver meaningful results, including pay-what-you-can hot lunch programs.
