Trustees, the Board, and the Province
What's the most important thing you'd act on as a school board trustee, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen? My priority would be the safety and well being of each student where each student can have access to a learning environment that is free from discrimination, bullying and harassment. I bring over 12 years of experience as a public safety officer, as well as over 12 years experience in government policy.
A school trustee should advocate for safety and well being of all students and for a learning environment free from bullying, discrimination and harassment. A school trustee should act as a liaison between parents/ guardians and school administrators to promote safe learning environment for all students free from bullying.
I would ensure that classes are reasonable in size. This will allow for teachers and EAs to have the ability to spend sufficient time with each student. I would also advocate for additional resources to allow for teachers and EAs to be available for additional help for those students who may need it.
Special Programs and Program Access
School boards make decisions about the range and distribution of specialized programs, including special education, language programs, and arts programming. What would you prioritize as a School Board Trustee in how these programs are offered and accessed?I would advocate for enough resources to have the ability to run several programs. I believe students should be able to access additional programs of their particular interest. When prioritizing, I would consider the needs and priorities of each school on an individual basis. Each school will have specific set of needs and priorities that may differ from other schools. I would hold regular discussions with parents in order to determine the particular and unique programming needs of each school individually.
