Issue answers

The Mayor and City Council

What's the most important thing you'd act on as a City Councillor, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen?

My first priority is tackling the housing crisis in our community. I will fight for safe, affordable housing and protect TCHC tenants. If a housing building is sold to a private investor, I will advocate for the city and developer to contribute 50% of the purchase price of a new home for eligible residents who have lived there for 10 years or more and are displaced. Everyone deserves fairness, dignity, housing security, and the opportunity to own a home and build a stronger community.

Housing

Housing costs weigh on Torontonians whether they rent or own, access to subsidized housing is limited, and a growing number of people have no home at all. What would you prioritize on the next City Council to help people find and keep a secure place to live?

Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Anyone experiencing homelessness should receive immediate access to temporary shelter and support in finding permanent housing. The city must protect tenants from unreasonable rent increases and ensure rents remain affordable. City subsidies should help low-income individuals and families pay rent. Governments must invest in public and affordable housing to prevent homelessness. Housing is a basic human need, not a privilege. No one should be left on the streets.

Cost of Living

The cost of daily life keeps climbing — housing, transit fares, city fees, etc. What is one thing you would prioritize on the next City Council to make Toronto more affordable, soon enough to matter to residents?

My goal is to help lower the cost of living by supporting local farmers and helping them increase production. By strengthening local agriculture and encouraging fair competition with imported products, we can give consumers more choices, create competitive prices, support local jobs, and make food more affordable for families.

Safety in Public Spaces

Some Torontonians don't feel safe in parks, on transit, or on certain streets, even where reported crime is low. What would you prioritize on the next City Council to help people be and feel safe in the city's public spaces?

Everyone has the right to walk freely on public streets, ride buses, and relax in parks without fear, harassment, intimidation, or violence. Public spaces must be safe, accessible, and welcoming to everyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. Anyone who threatens others, commits violence, or violates the law must be held accountable. Authorities should enforce the law consistently, with zero tolerance for violence and harassment, to protect everyone’s freedom, dignity, and safety in public places.

Getting Around the City

Getting around the city is a source of frustration for many Torontonians, whether people drive, take transit, cycle, or walk. What would you prioritize on the next City Council to improve how people move around the city, however they travel?

Everyone should be able to get around the city safely and easily, whether driving, taking public transit, cycling, or walking. In winter, snow and ice on sidewalks, bike lanes, and main roads create serious hazards and make daily travel difficult. I will make snow and ice removal a priority, ensuring that streets, sidewalks, and transit stops are cleared promptly. Everyone deserves safe, accessible routes to work, school, and essential services without worrying about winter conditions.

Confronting Hateful and Hostile Behaviour

Many Torontonians are concerned about hateful and hostile behaviour, which can disproportionately affect newcomers and members of racialized, marginalized, and equity-deserving communities. What would you prioritize on the next City Council to respond and keep Toronto safe and welcoming for everyone?

Whether you are a newcomer or a citizen, hate, discrimination, and hostility toward any group will not be tolerated. We are a multicultural nation, and our diversity should bring us together, not divide us. We must respect one another and learn from different cultures. I would support cultural awareness programs and community events where people can share their traditions, food, and history. By learning about one another, we can build understanding, reduce prejudice, and create a safer, more inclusive society where everyone can live peacefully.
