The Mayor and City Council

What's the most important thing you'd act on as a City Councillor, and what experience or strengths would help you make it happen?

As city councillor, I will continue to prioritize public safety for Torontonians in Eglinton-Lawrence and across the city. The rise in antisemitic attacks on our Jewish community, home invasions, and auto thefts are all serious public safety crises that require both diligent Council attention, a well as close collaboration with other levels of government to solve. I have years of experience building consensus on council and bringing the provincial and federal government together to tackle these issues.

Housing

Housing costs weigh on Torontonians whether they rent or own, access to subsidized housing is limited, and a growing number of people have no home at all. What would you prioritize on the next City Council to help people find and keep a secure place to live?

I will prioritize getting Lawrence Heights Revitalization Phase 2 and 3 built - the largest public housing initiative in Canada. This will provide thousands of new affordable housing units to our community at a time of affordability crisis. I will also help strengthen RentSafeTO to ensure that tenants are given their proper rights and don't have to live under the threat of unjust evictions and unreasonable rent hikes.

Cost of Living

The cost of daily life keeps climbing — housing, transit fares, city fees, etc. What is one thing you would prioritize on the next City Council to make Toronto more affordable, soon enough to matter to residents?

I will continue to support the freeze on TTC fares to make public transit affordable, including the expanded fare-capping program introduced by the City this year. This presents real, immediate affordability relief for everyone across the city, while pursuing additional measures to keep service reliable and safe.

Safety in Public Spaces

Some Torontonians don't feel safe in parks, on transit, or on certain streets, even where reported crime is low. What would you prioritize on the next City Council to help people be and feel safe in the city's public spaces?

I will continue to champion the 211 crisis response system that I helped establish with council in 2021, which helps those in distress with the appropriate emergency service response, without taking away from other emergency services' resources. I will also continue to invest in our Toronto Police Services to ensure we have an adequate number of officers on the ground for neighbourhood safety.

Getting Around the City

Getting around the city is a source of frustration for many Torontonians, whether people drive, take transit, cycle, or walk. What would you prioritize on the next City Council to improve how people move around the city, however they travel?

We need to prioritize and expand the use of our public transit system, especially the two new rapid transit lines we have built. This includes better signal priority and frequencies to get more people onto the TTC and away from their usual driving habits. I will also continue to champion safer pedestrian infrastructure to encourage walking in our neighbourhoods.

Confronting Hateful and Hostile Behaviour

Many Torontonians are concerned about hateful and hostile behaviour, which can disproportionately affect newcomers and members of racialized, marginalized, and equity-deserving communities. What would you prioritize on the next City Council to respond and keep Toronto safe and welcoming for everyone?

I will continue to advocate for improving outdated hate laws at the federal and provincial level which are currently difficult to enforce, weak and incapable of confronting all forms of increasingly violent hate and racism facing our communities. I will also continue to build consensus on council to tackle the rising tide of antisemitism facing our Jewish community here in Toronto and bringing other levels of government together to form a joint task force against antisemitism.
